Upcoming Show with John Nolan 11/10

We’re four days away from our return to Songbyrd Music House in DC opening for Taking Back Sunday and Straylight Run’s own, John Nolan. He’s on a solo tour promoting his third solo record, and we couldn’t be happier joining him for the show. This is 19 year old Pat’s dream, and it’s making 32 year old Pat just as excited. Make sure you check our shows, to find a link for tickets. Get those tickets, it’s going to be a blast!

Upcoming Show 9/21

Greetings MTNS fans. We've got a fun show coming up, and we want you all to be there.

Back in the Spring of 2013, we were on a Midwestern tour, and the second stop of that tour was at a venue Double Happiness in Columbus, OH. That was a special show for us, as we had to cancel a show there a year prior because our bus broke down. It felt like a triumph of some sort.

The venue itself was a cool spot. The Darjeeling Limited was playing on the TV behind the bar. They gave us a case of Ohio shit beer, Hudy Delight, which was awesome, and had amazing yakitori. We got to relax before the show, and I believe I wrote a blog post about how their bathroom didn't have a door. All in all, we were excited to be there, and there were some rad Columbus bands on the bill. One of those bands, Coal Fired Bicycle.

Coal Fired Bicycle was an excellent band, and even better people. They took us to a hotdog place after the show, and then gave us a place to stay in the comfort and hospitality of their own home. Some of us shared a bed, and some Ambien. Some of us got a couch. All of us slept well, and got to hang with a dog that we named Gary (not her name). They were the sweetest hosts.

Fast forward to today. Coal Fired Bicycle is going on tour, and making Frederick a destination of that tour. We will be hosting them at Cafe Nola, and we're super excited that they're coming. Make sure you mark your calendars, and check them out, as well as see us play for the first time since July. Our old piano player, and founding member, Thom Huenger, will be joining us. It's not going to be a show to miss. Until then friends.

Live at Sky Stage Recording Release

Just over a week ago, we played a show at Frederick's famous Sky Stage. This was our second time playing Sky Stage (two weeks apart), and it was a lot of fun. Thankfully, the sound guys had rigged everything up to record our set.

A couple of things about these recordings:

  1. Sometimes the sound gets a little goofy
  2. There are clear technical difficulties
  3. Guitars are out of tune
  4. Perfection does not exist

At first listen, I immediately thought, "no one will ever hear this." After spending the time chopping the recording into each individual song, there was something enchanting about it. It's humbling to listen to a performance that you put your heart/soul/energy into, and have it come back far from where you thought or hoped it would be. Nonetheless, it grew on me. Last night, we as a band listened to the whole recording, pointing out the obvious moments where things went wrong, or sounded strange, and laughed about it. More times than not, we picked out parts that we really liked. We found promise, and that's why we posted it on our Bandcamp for everyone to listen to it for free.

If you've ever seen us play live, you know it's a fun time. It's never perfect. We never execute anything with precision, we just go out there, and try to put on the best show we can. This set of recordings, I/we believe, appropriately exemplify that.

Last thing about this - all these songs (besides the last song) are going to appear on our second full length album. This is your first real preview of that. Check it out. Don't take it too seriously, and enjoy it the best you can.

Sofar DC Video Release!

Back in April, we had the pleasure of performing a special secret show in DC. It was raining. Parking was weird. Energy was at a high. We loaded into a luxury apartment building, and headed up to the penthouse. When we got there, we were met by the friendly staff of Sofar Sounds DC. Sofar Sounds is an international company producing secret intimate shows in cities all over the world. The Sofar DC crew were the best, and we had a blast sharing the stage with Las Añez (Colombia) and Oh He Dead (DC). Here is our last song (new song) from that night. Consider checking Sofar Sounds out, and maybe finding a secret show to attend. We can't wait to come back.

Updates Galore

Hey everyone,

It's been awhile, sorry for that.

We've got a few things to get everyone caught up with regarding the band. First off, personnel changes. This is way late to announce, but we've had a change on keyboard. Though he is not a new member of Silent Old Mtns., Colin Schulzaberger is our new keyboardist. Most of you who read this, and have seen us play in the last year+, already know this. I just feel obligated to mention it. We love Colin, and he has been a part of the Mtns family for years and years.

Second personnel change is our new bassist, John Fenker. Alex moved to St. Louis almost a year ago, and John joined the band at the beginning of the year. It's been great having John as part of the band, and we're excited to see what the future brings.

We've been talking about a new record since we got back together in 2015, but we did actually start the damn thing. About a third of the record has been completed, with the remainder soon to follow. Thank you for your patience. We promise it will be worth the wait.

Last thing I want to mention - we'll be making our first appearance at the Frederick famous Sky Stage on June 30th. We're super excited to play at Sky Stage, and equally excited to share the stage with Samuel Powers. They're a blast. Mark your calendars. Check the poster for the show details below.

That's everything for now, and hopefully there won't be a huge gap until the next update.
